  Sewing Behavior

The Editable Brep Sewing is a mode which is active as long as the panel is shown. You may change parameters and sew again and again until the desired result is achieved before exiting the mode.

The Editable Brep Sewing allows the user to specify a variety of parameters used to sew or stich edges together. The Sewing is accumulative in that once you hit "Sew Now" the result is kept and used again after you adjust the parameters. Typically you will want to start with a Tolerance Scale of 1.0 and increase it. If you go into Edge Selection mode prior to sewing you will be able to see the edges which are sewn (white) and the open edges (blue). Non-Manifold edges (edges with more than 2 faces) are shown in dark orange. The typical sequence is shown below:

1) Set Editable to Edge Selection mode with wireframe displayed.
2) Select "Sewing" button in Selection Panel.
3) Choose the Result Type.
4) Set Tolerance and other options.
5) Hit "Sew Now" button and see how many edges are sewn and how many are left open at bottom of panel.
6) Adjust Tolerance and other parameters if necessary.
7) Hit "Apply" to save results to the Editable Brep or "Cancel" to revert to original Brep.

  Parameters

Sew Now: Does sewing with current parameters and remains in Sewing Mode.
Apply: Saves current result and exits Sewing Mode
Cancel: Reverts to original Brep and exits Sewing Mode

Result Type:
Closed Solid Volume: Select this option if the object should form a closed solid once sewn together.
Open Shell: Select this option if the object should form a nice open shell once sewn together.
Mixed: Select this option if the model is not really very clean and extra work may be needed to get a good result.

Tolerance Scale: Specifies a scaling to be applied to the Brep Tolerance to get a Sewing Tolerance. A good tight model will be able to sew together with a 1.0 tolerance scale. Models which are not well connected at the edges may require 10x or 100x or even 1000x the Brep tolerance to sew correctly. Be careful when going over 100x because this may remove small edges.

Split Edges: Sometimes a model will not have a 1 to 1 correspondance between edges. For example there may be a T junction where 2 surfaces join along one edge of a 3rd surface.

Squeeze Out Small Edges: If TRUE the sewing will attempt to squeeze out edges smaller than the sewing tolerance. Be careful using this one.

X - Open Edges: Displays the number of open edges currently in the Brep

X - Sewn Edges: Displays the number of sewn edges from the last application of "Sew Now"
